The National Quemoy University (NQU) is located in Kinmen, a land believed to be protected by the sun.  Its vibrant campus buildings, gleaming with red bricks and white walls are the result of an unique Minnan and Western architecture style fusion. Through these aesthetics, the NQU conveys the academic and cultural heritage it inherited from the Song Dynasty Scholar Zhu Xi, while preserving the Spirit of Academia, and of Kinmen on campus.  

The NQU was founded in 1997 in Kinmen as the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Kinmen Division. In 2003, it became the National Kinmen Institute of Technology. It was promoted and renamed to National Quemoy University in 2010.

The NQU motto "Real Knowledge, Strong Performance, For The Good Of The World" is the NQU's academic expectation for its students in the quest for knowledge - through questioning, examination, reflection, and the tireless pursuit for the scientific truth, the NQU hopes students can put the knowledge into practice, making full use of that knowledge.
 
Immigration has always been a part of life on Kinmen Island. The Western-Style houses everywhere on the island bear witness to the ventures of Kinmen's ancestors. Many Kinmen residents today have family members overseas in Southeast Asia and Japan, making Kinmen a major capital in the hearts of the Overseas Chinese. With the Cross-Strait relationship constantly evolving, the NQU also urges students to consider current events with a perspective that mutually benefits for all involved. 

The NQU is a relatively new university with the student and faculty numbers at less than 5,000. However, by opening its doors to students from main Taiwan island and overseas, the NQU has been able to attain an enrollment rate of nearly 100% each year. The primary mission of the National Quemoy University is the dissemination of its Minnan heritage and the creation of a modern Academy. The NQU also seeks to leverage Kinmen's geographical advantages to serve as a Cross-Strait hub of academic exchange. And by achieving such, become a role model boutique university. 

The NQU extends its most sincere welcome to talented students, and it is also eager to send trained talents to Taiwan and all corners of the world.
