Attractive Environment for Overseas Students

Kinmen is a simple island with friendly and hospitable residents. The public safety satisfaction ratings from a Taiwanese Central Government Evaluation in 2011 were as high as 93%, and for many years Kinmen ranked as the happiest city in the "Happy City Survey".

The NQU offers an environment conducive to learning for students from all backgrounds. Currently, 90% of the students come from outside of Kinmen. From the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, a large number of Kinmen's residents migrated overseas. The NQU's connections with these Overseas Chinese attracted a sizable number of students from Southeast Asia to study here.

In addition, Xiamen is only a 30-minute flight away with the Three Mini Links. This close proximity with Mainland made the NQU a top choice for Chinese students. Currently, there are 153 overseas students on campus from Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and even from as far away as Argentina or Papua New Guinea.

Students from different countries brought their unique perspectives and customs with them, forming a global village right here on campus. Because of this, our students have long developed a respect for diverse cultures. To help overseas students adjust to life in Kinmen the NQU often organizes events for them. With the help of local volunteer moms, students are able to experience Kinmen culture through everyday activities such as making rice dumplings, cooking rice balls, and making red turtle cakes.

Overseas students enjoy the same benefits as regular Kinmen residents. Once enrolled, the student's ID card acts as the resident ID and they can immediately enjoy the same perks and benefits as Kinmen residents, such as free bus rides, NT$4,000 transportation and book subsidy, and also tuition assistance. No matter where they come from, Kinmen considers all students as residents and thus ought to be taken care of.
